Continue Browsing TripsA full day of Old and New Delhi sightseeing: Raj Ghat, Mahatma Gandhi's cremation site, followed by a drive past the Red Fort and a cycle-rickshaw ride through the crowded lanes to Jama Masjid, the largest mosque in Asia, built by Shah Jahan. New Delhi sightseeing continues with Qutub Minar — begun in 1193 to mark the onset of Muslim rule in Delhi — and Humayun's Tomb, the garden-tomb design that would later inspire the Taj Mahal itself, plus drive-past views of India Gate, Parliament, and Rashtrapati Bhavan. Tip: this is the most walking-heavy day of the trip — comfortable shoes matter here more than on any single day in Agra or Jaipur. Transfer to Agra via the Yamuna Expressway; overnight in Agra.
A sunrise visit to the Taj Mahal, built by Shah Jahan as a mausoleum for Mumtaz Mahal and completed over 22 years by around 20,000 artisans, followed by breakfast back at the hotel. The day continues with Agra Fort, the Mughal seat of power where Shah Jahan later spent his final years imprisoned by his son, and, after lunch, the Tomb of Itimad-ud-Daulah — the "Baby Taj," built decades earlier and considered an architectural precursor to the Taj itself. Tip: the Baby Taj draws far fewer visitors than the main monument — a good stop for a slower, closer look at the same inlay techniques used on the Taj.
En route to Jaipur, a stop at Fatehpur Sikri — Akbar's purpose-built capital, abandoned after 14 years when its water supply failed, entered through the towering Buland Darwaza gateway. Tip: minimal shade across most of the site — carry water and dress for the heat. Arrive Jaipur by evening; the rest of the day is at leisure.
A photo stop at Hawa Mahal, followed by Amber Fort — the Rajput hilltop capital overlooking Maota Lake, reached by jeep or elephant, where the Sheesh Mahal's mirrored walls and the Ganesh Pol gateway showcase the merging of Rajput and Mughal design. The afternoon continues with the City Palace Museum's royal costumes and armoury, and closes at Jantar Mantar, the 18th-century observatory built by Maharaja Jai Singh II. Tip: start Amber Fort as early in the morning as your schedule allows — it's considerably busier, and hotter, by mid-morning.
After breakfast, the drive back to Delhi (roughly 260 km / 5 hours), with time on arrival before your onward transfer to the airport. Tip: confirm your exact drop-off — hotel or airport — with your guide the evening before, since it's the one detail that changes the final day's routing.
