Itinerary

Hotel pickup and Humayun's Tomb visit

Your driver collects you from your hotel or the airport and meets your guide at Humayun's Tomb — built in the 1560s by Empress Bega Begum for her husband, and recognized by UNESCO in 1993 as the first true garden-tomb on the Indian subcontinent, the design that would eventually be perfected in the Taj Mahal nearly a century later. Tip: this is the first stop of the day for a reason — it's usually the quietest of the major monuments, since most group tours schedule it later in the morning.

Qutub Minar visit

Continue to Qutub Minar, a 73-metre tower and the tallest brick minaret in the world, begun in 1193 by Qutub-ud-din Aibak immediately after the defeat of Delhi's last Hindu kingdom — its five stacked storeys, each in a slightly different style, chart the changing tastes of the sultans who added to it over the following century. Tip: the surrounding complex has more to see than just the tower itself — ask your guide to point out the Iron Pillar, which has resisted rusting for over 1,500 years.

Lotus Temple visit

From Old Delhi's Mughal history to a very different kind of monument: the Lotus Temple, completed in 1986 as the last of the Bahá'í faith's seven "Mother Temples," its 27 marble petals arranged around nine reflecting pools. Tip: the temple is closed on Mondays — worth checking against your tour date if this stop matters to you, since a private tour can otherwise be scheduled any day of the week.

Lunch and Jama Masjid visit

A lunch break at a multi-cuisine, air-conditioned restaurant (at your own expense), followed by Jama Masjid — India's largest mosque, begun in 1650 by Shah Jahan and completed six years later by a workforce of over 5,000, with a courtyard that can hold 25,000 worshippers at once. Tip: modest dress is required inside — shoulders and knees covered, with robes available to borrow at the entrance if needed.

India Gate and New Delhi sightseeing

The tour shifts into New Delhi with India Gate, a 42-metre war memorial designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and completed in 1931 to honor the roughly 70,000 Indian soldiers killed in the First World War, standing at the center of the ceremonial avenue leading to Rashtrapati Bhavan and the Parliament buildings. Tip: this stretch is best appreciated from the car rather than on foot — traffic circulation around India Gate makes it a drive-past viewpoint more than a walking stop.

Hotel or airport drop-off

Your chauffeur completes the day with a transfer back to your hotel, the airport, or your preferred drop-off point in Delhi NCR. Tip: this tour condenses Delhi's Mughal, colonial, and spiritual landmarks into a single private day — a good option if you're short on time in the capital and want the highlights without an overnight stay.
